In Which I’m Sincere for a Second.

Maybe it’s because today my family’s going to start coming in from all over. Maybe it’s because today I’m going to hear the President speak in my hometown. Maybe it’s because I went down the YouTube hole this morning trying to find a recording of a Charlottesville band’s beautiful cover of “Louisiana 1927” to send my tiny blog-love from Charlottesville down to New Orleans, & I ended up here.

This is my favorite song, & there’s finally a decent video of it up on the interwebs. I think it’s safe-ish to say I’ve loved this song for so long it’s like a part of my body now, & it still makes me cry.

Say what you will—& you should—about the ugly show Virginia has made for itself in politics recently. To the extent that I’m from somewhere & not some weird alien walking around from the planet Jewish, like I usually feel, I’m from here. It’s been nice to be back. I’ve got a lot of love for this place.
