Causality.

March 18, 2010 § 2 Comments

If it hadn’t been so nice outside today, I wouldn’t have been playing football in the street.

If I hadn’t been playing football in the street, I wouldn’t have fallen on the street.

If I hadn’t fallen on the street, I wouldn’t have messed up my ankle.

If I hadn’t messed up my ankle, I wouldn’t have nursed my gin.

If I hadn’t nursed my gin, I wouldn’t have forgotten to R.I.C.E.

If I hadn’t forgotten to R.I.C.E., I wouldn’t have suddenly remembered to R.I.C.E. at 3am.

If I hadn’t suddenly remembered to R.I.C.E. at 3am, I wouldn’t have read that Alex Chilton’s dead.

If I hadn’t read that Alex Chilton’s dead, I wouldn’t have listened to “Thirteen” at 3am.

If I hadn’t listened to “Thirteen” at 3am, I wouldn’t have listened to “Thirteen” again at 3:02am.

If I hadn’t listened to “Thirteen” at 3:02am, I wouldn’t have listened to “Thirteen” again at 3:04, :06, :08…

If I hadn’t…, I’d be asleep now, or so I tell myself.
